"Follow Me"
Day Seven
Overcoming Fear
“So do not fear, for I am with
you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.”
Isaiah 41:10
“Take courage! It is I. Don’t
be afraid.”
Matthew 14:27
Fortunately, most of us will never have to endure many
of the things Christ experienced.
Jesus’ time of greatest anguish, in the Garden of Gethsemane,
was so intense because he knew what was about to unfold.
He was anticipating the physical pain and humiliation
that was coming. And, perhaps most agonizingly, he was
anticipating being separated from his Father, God. This
was going to be a first for Jesus; he was going to be
truly alone, completely forsaken by his intimate, loving
Dad at the time of his most desperate need. It must
have struck fear into his heart.
The greatest fear any person should have is the fear
of being separated from God, our heavenly Father. Yet
because of Jesus’ death and the fear that he endured
that day, we never have to know the fear of being abandoned
by God. Jesus paid the price for covering our sins so
that we can have an intimate relationship with the Father,
now and for eternity. God will never leave us, nor forsake
us (Hebrews 13:5). Because God placed the fear of separation
from him on his son Jesus, the only one who could possibly
endure it, we now have nothing to fear.
Pray Today
Thank Jesus Christ for enduring the greatest fear
we face: separation from God. Because Jesus went before
us and endured the reality of that fear, we can see
how much God loves us and wants to be our God. Pray
that you truly understand Jesus is greater than any
of your fears.
If you do not have the assurance of knowing God
is with you and that you have an intimate relationship
with him, both now and for eternity, pray now and ask
Jesus to forgive you of your sins and come into your
life to reconcile you with God. Ask Jesus to dwell in
you by the Holy Spirit and to enable you to follow him
wholeheartedly.
